YB & TB in BC photo diary – part 1

Here’s the first lost of photos from my week with my brother and sister (YB & TB). This was the weekend my brother was here on his own and we drove up to Whistler.

I love Whistler – it really is such a gorgeous place to visit! The weather was perfect, we hired bikes and rode around the trails all afternoon.. finishing off with the boys swimming in the lake. Too cold for me! :)

I love how I look like a 12 year old little girl in my dress :) hehe.. but it’s so cute and comfortable. I got it while I was in India last year – India is the best place to pick up summer dresses! They are so affordable and the prints and colours are gorgeous. I kept this one simple, wearing it with my converse and just a few bracelets – it was so hot, and we were on the move – so I wanted to be as comfortable as possible.

More pics from the rest of the week coming soon.

Big smiles for Foxx Foto

The lovely Jess from Foxx Foto was at the India Mela over the weekend and she captured a couple of photos of me and my mother-in-law. I love how they came out, so smiley! :)

Jess is absolutely great.. she did our engagement photo shoot last year as well as our wedding reception earlier this year – and I love every single photo she took! She has this amazing ability to catch the really special moments!

Thanks Jess!

festivals in the sun

Amika Kushwaha -beautiful Kathak teacher and my current teacher. Cassius Khan Jawani Bhangra Lyrical Contemporary South Asian Academy of Fine ArtsM and I went to the 9th Annual Sawan Mela this weekend, at Jack Poole Plaza, Canada Place which was held by the South Asian Family Association. It was a great day, filled with amazing performances, music and a lively atmosphere.

The performances were all afternoon, and we got to see some of the amazing talent from local artists. Saturday evening ended with an outdoor showing of a Bollywood movie. It was so much fun… the backdrop for the screen was amazing, with the mountains and  water in view.. plus sitting under the stars curled up in blankets was such a great way to spend a summer’s night.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day.. definitley one of the best we’ve had all summer!

Another converse/shorts combination from me.. but well, I needed to be comfortable as we were on our feet all day.. plus I love these polka dots shorts.. they are just too cute! I can’t wait to dress them up a bit, with a pretty blouse and heels!

I hope you are all having a great week!

(Outfit: H&M shirt; polko dot shorts from a board shop in Steveston; Zara bag; Converse shoes; Tag Heuer watch; Thomas Saabo pearl charm bracelet; Juicy Couture cuff; Tiffany bracelet)

P.S. Check out Outdoor Movies BC for outdoor movie events everyday during the summer.. they are awesome.

P.P.S. Like my new header? Felt like a change..

flying beaver

Following on from my last post.. last night we went to the Flying Beaver Bar for dinner. I think I have found my favourite pub in Vancouver (I have a favourite in Victoria, but we’ll leave that for another post).

This pub has such an amazing atmosphere (even on a Tuesday night!), the friendliest staff.. and the food!! hmmm… so very very good. I meant to take photos of the food for you, but we were so hungry that we didn’t really get a chance to stop for photos! :) We had pizza and nachos… and of course, for M – hot wings! Which actually were really good. I am not a huge fan of wings.. but these were great. The pizza was my favourite.. oh and the dessert! We got a a trio of their desserts.. a raspberry cheesecake, a Belgium pecan chocolate brownie and apple pie & ice-cream! :) … I’m getting hungry thinking about it.

I was in quite a bit of pain during the meal… hence the reason why I look a bit tired and not very comfortable… but I really did fall in love with the place and will definitely be going back again soon. It’s right on the water in Richmond, and we managed to get a table on the patio.. it kind  of felt like we were floating..  and the view (as you can see) was beautiful. I love the photo where you can see the reflection from the window, so you can kind of see the inside of the pub as well as the water…

I did get to wear my new Joe Fresh jumper too.. which is sooo comfortable and the perfect choice for a night of trying to be as comfortable as possible!

Approved!

So some of you might know that I recently moved to Vancouver in January of this year…. and since then, I’ve kind of been waiting around.. trying to keep myself as busy as possible, until my permanent residency for Canada was approved, so that I can finally get a job and start working etc etc :)

ANDD.. yesterday morning, M got the phone call to say the final process of the application needs to be completed.. in other words, I’ve pretty much been approved! :) I have been waiting for this day for so long now, that part of me doesn’t believe it’s actually true.

It’s still unofficial.. as I have now submitted my passport to complete the process.. but it does  mean that I am one step to closer to living out my dream… I am super super excited!

Last night we were meant to go out and celebrate this good news, however unfortunately I have this awfully painful kink in my neck.. which ended up delaying our full blown celebrations for a while.. instead we went out for a casual yet scrumptious pub dinner..  a few photos of that to come shortly.

I’d like to thank my family and friends who have supported me during this process, especially M… and put up with my frustrated mood swings! :)

I hope you are all having a a great week… and that everyone single one of you receives some good news too!

P.S. I used a pretty old photo of me in this post… and I think I might be starting to miss my long hair..maybe it’s time to grow it out again, what do you think?

there’s no place like Zimbabwe…

I started with the title of this ppst being “there’s no place like home”… but really home is Vancouver now & M does the best job in never giving me a reason to look back, BUT saying that, I have been feeling very homesick   Zimsick for the last two days.. it happens, come and goes in phases… and hopefully by tomorrow that phase will be gone.. but for now here are a couple of things I miss:

the people, the sun blaring down on you everyday; my parents; my brother & sister; jacaranda trees; my brothers/boys; sunsets in kariba; my girls; victoria falls; mapurisa; sunrise; our house; the parties; our dogs; the smell after it rains; braais; the millions of stars at night; my mum’s cooking; tennis biscuits; my cousins… dancing till the sun rises..  the people..

“The biggest lesson from Africa was that life’s joys come mostly from relationships and friendships, not from material things. I saw time and again how much fun Africans had with their families and friends and on the sports fields; they laughed all the time.”
- Andrew Shue (Melrose Place)

Happy Friday.. and here’s to a beautiful weekend!

photo diary

Last week we travelled to Port Renfrew for a fishing trip… and above you can see some of the photos from the trip!
It was a really amazing experience.. but it was also so very long and tiring! We were absolutely drained when we got back. The first day was spent hiking and then in the evening we had an a huge crab feast (truly scrumptious!!) The next day was spent on the boat.. catching fish! Which we did! We now have enough fish to last us for the rest of the year!
The views and sights out there were beyond beautiful, and I am so happy and excited about some of the pictures I got.

It was so unbelievably cold out there too.. seriously, it felt like it was the dead of winter! Hence why we are all wrapped up in big jackets, beanies etc….

I am definitely glad to be back on land – that’s for sure! My weekend was spent with family in Toronto.. a really nice and relaxing trip filled with moments in the sun, bbqs and games!

Now it’s back to the normal routine in sunny (yes finally!) Vancouver!

I hope you are all having an amazing week and that it gets better and better as the weekend arrives.

skies

Apologies for the silence… the last few days have been a bit crazy, and I haven’t really had the chance to sit down and play catch up!
I had a truly lovely weekend away on Salt Spring Island… it was relaxing and tiring all at the same time! We stayed at the Salt Spring Spa Resort.. where they have these fabulous A-shaped chalets! (check out the website to see what I mean). We spent Saturday afternoon relaxing in the spa and walking around the market on the island… and Sunday we went kayaking – which was awesome, but also very tiring!

I leave you with two photos of my weekend, the first is the view we have from our apartment and the sun rising at 5am on Saturday morning (we had to get up very early to catch the ferry) and the second was actually taken on the ferry ride back home on Sunday.

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend and are having an even more beautiful week!

(P.S. If anyone of you are interested in the rantings and ramblings of a 20-something year old girl living the rat race of a life in London… check out my sister’s blog here! It’s not really fashion-related, but can be very thought-provoking and a good laugh)

beautiful country

I know many of the images I post are always off beautiful sceneries, the sky, lakes/oceans/seas etc etc…  but well, I can’t help it! :) This country really is gorgeous.. everywhere you go, you have beautiful views that I have to take photos of! Plus, with the amazing sunny days we have been having here, we have been able to go out and enjoy it that much more…. On Sunday we were at Cultus Lake for a friend’s birthday bbq…. and again I soaked up lots of sun while having great conversations with friends, while M and the boys played soccer etc….. It was a nice and relaxing Sunday afternoon and I got to see more of British Columbia…
